Congratulations to all staff and fellow Councillors in delivering the open line forums, it is a strategic move forward and was a personal goal of mine to deliver the project during my term on council. I look forward to community consultation and reading the comments. Job well done :)))

Special thanks to Stephanie Addison-Brown Director Community Customer Services and the CEO Mr Andrew Brien Job well done :)))

Bunbury Lad Comment 3 30 Jan 2012, 12:57 PM

I would like all decisions made by Council to be based upon sustainability and in open consultation with the community. For the future, Council must have the resources and it must manage and plan for a balance between population growth, urban development and environmental protection. Open dialogue is critical and as a community we must openly assist and guide Council and occasionaly this will mean a bit of give and bit of take.

murraycook Comment 4 30 Jan 2012, 7:42 PM

Bunbury lad certainly gets my vote. This website is, of course, the start of community engagement and it will be great to see how residents respond. The start has been pretty positive. I do think that community meetings need to be held but we have struggled, in the past, to get many residents to attend (I think the last one attracted about 20 residents - not too good out of a population of 25,000).

If we consider the "whole" of the region from Harvey to Capel and including Dardanup, rather than just Bunbury City, I am sure that we can get the balance between urban growth, environmental protection and a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.

STOP SURVEYS Bunbury needs ACTION Comment 5 3 Feb 2012, 2:50 PM

MESSAGE TO CITY OF BUNBURY MAYOR, COUNCILLORS AND ADMIN STAFF

HERE WE GO AGAIN.

ANOTHER SURVEY. MORE WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY.

WHAT BUNBURY NEEDS IS ACTION....ACTION....ACTION

OVER ONE MILLION DOLLARS WAS SPENT BY CITY OF BUNBURY ON THE CITY VISION PROJECT NOT SO LONG AGO AND NOOOOOO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. NOW WE ARE GOING BACK TO THE PUBLIC WITH MORE SURVEYS AND MORE QUESTIONS.

PLEAAAAAAAAAASE. CAN SOMEONE TAKE SOME STRONG LEADERSHIP AND GO BACK TO THE CITY VISION PROJECT WHERE ALL THESE QUSTIONS WERE ANSWERED BY THE COMMUNTY OF BUNBURY AND LET'S GET SOME ACTION HAPPENING.

Bunbury 2030 Comment 5.1 Project Team 6 Feb 2012, 2:20 PM

Thank you for your comments.

The City of Bunbury is starting a new community engagement project as part of the new State Government legislative requirements. Every local government in WA has to develop a Community Strategic Plan, which will help us identify the community's priorites for the next ten years. To get a good idea of the priorities of Bunbury residents, we need to look into new and easy ways of engaging with the community, and this online forum is one such way.

As you may have noticed, the four topics have been taken directly from City Vision. Council certainly still sees value in the City Vision document, however the City Vision Action Plan was compiled in 2007, and we feel the community’s priorities will have changed since then.

We encourage you to post any helpful feedback and suggestions under the relevant topics, so we can get a full picture of how Bunbury residents would like to see their City by 2030.

I would like to see council meetings posted on YouTube. I'm not too sure how councils operate but I'm interested in how they make some of their decisions

Arthur Quit Comment 7 10 Feb 2012, 8:50 PM

I think the survey would work better if Councillors didn't indulge in self aggrandisement or right of reply and allowed the forum to be the domain of the public.

murraycook Comment 7.1 11 Feb 2012, 12:54 PM

What can I say - I agree with you Arthur. I did think that the community may be interested to read where I do sit on some of these issues. I will withdraw and listen - really listen - to what the community is saying. Cheers Cr Murray Cook JP

Cr Kelly Comment 8 18 Feb 2012, 10:57 AM

Councillors are also ratepayers and are quite entitled to lodge a say. Obviously only if something 'twigs' and is a worthwhile contribution.

Arthur Quit Comment 8.1 29 Feb 2012, 1:14 PM

No arguments with your logic Cr Kelly however the first two comments on this page made me think that elected members shouldn't use this forum to imply authorship of, or suggest that any member(s) of staff are uniquely responsible for this process. I think the forum deserves better. Hence my suggestion.

Cr Kelly Comment 8.1.1 29 Feb 2012, 5:27 PM

Thanks Arthur... I agree...

Development of Community Reference Panels

Reference is made to an article titled “City of Bunbury set for shake-up” which appeared at Page 3 of the 13th October 1999 edition of the Bunbury Mail newspaper. The article dealt with an organisation review of Council services initiated by the then Chief Executive Officer. The review envisaged a number of changes and initiatives, one of which was the proposed development of Customer Feedback Groups, as the following extract from the article indicates:

“Other changes for council include the proposed development of customer feedback groups, an economic development business centre, and a focus on the development more…

Alan Summers Comment 10 21 Feb 2012, 2:41 AM

Recently, correspondents to a local newspaper criticised the condition of City footpaths stating that no matter where people walk (on footpaths) they have to keep their faces to the ground. (no doubt to avoid tripping or otherwise causing themselves physical injury). Several years ago a group of seniors relying on gophers for their mobility demonstrated to display their dissatisfaction with City footpaths. Some years ago it was necessary for the City of Bunbury to incur considerable expenditure on the rejuvenation of Boulters Heights due to its dilapidated state caused by lack of adequate maintenance over a long period of time.

If more…

im new to this but would like to comment regarding dog beaches and fenced walking areas for dogs. To do this in more detail can someone let me know where i can make these remarks so they will be read by someone who pays attention to this Thanks

Your Say Project Team Comment 11.1 1 Mar 2012, 3:20 PM

Hi Gaye

Thank you for registering and getting involved. You're more than welcome to leave comments on the website, you can either do so by adding comments to the forum like you've done with this query, or you can click on the Quick Comment tab and send us your comments directly. You can also email your comments to records@bunbury.wa.gov.au, just make sure you put Bunbury 2030 as your subject.

If you'd prefer to get out pen and paper, have a look at the Bunbury Mail edition of 7 March as you'll find the survey in that too or pop into the Council Building on 4 Stephen Street where we have printed copies as well.

I hope this helps Gaye and we look forward to reading more about your thoughts on dog beaches and other ideas. All comments provided to us will be collated into a report which will help the Council identify priorities for the years to come.

fish Comment 12 10 Mar 2012, 10:00 AM

Get the surrounding councils to amalgamate - 50% of the population of greater Bunbury lives out of our council area - we provide so much of the services and facilities that we all take for granted FREE to non Bunbury ratepayers and their councils.

If they won't amalgamate, charge non-residents extra!

On a recent trip to the USA, as non-county residents, we were charged more than double the entry price to a county-run sports facility than the cost to card-carrying county residents.

Outlying councils not providing their own facilities and relying on those of Bunbury would be contributing hugely to inefficient use of our physical, financial and human resources.

LGR Comment 12.1 23 Apr 2012, 4:28 PM

Many of the services in the CIty of Bunbury that people have to pay for are companies, therefore it isn't within the council's right to dictate entry fee's etc. As for the Rec Centre and City Library, by increasing costs for people who don't live within the City of Bunbury boundaries, I'm sure that your going to do more harm than good by discouraging people from using those facilities. Whilst Capel doesn't have a library as flashy as Bunbury's, it does have them, numerous ones in fact, which can all order books from the State collection, so these people aren't going to be without. All increased costs for Non-"Bunbury" residents will do is reduce the amount of income these places have to start with. The Southwest Rec Centre isn't the only one within easy distance remember - Eaton has it's own and Busso isn't really that far away eitherfor the odd trip during the week.

Resource sharing and maybe considered co-contribution is a far better method of trying to equalise the burden of such facilities in the future (which is what it is - they're certainly not there as money making ventures!).

newbies Comment 13 11 Mar 2012, 8:30 AM

Dissolve Bunbury council and allow Dardanup shire to run Bunbury, they know how to make decisions and the most of what they have.

Agree with Cr Kellys comment your entitled to your comment. Maybe you should resign from council as your opinion means so much to you.

I am 22 male moving to Bunbury from Esperance for work and I would like to think I would be able to have a say about the city I live in.

Alan Summers Comment 15 19 Mar 2012, 3:05 PM

Early in 2004 the City of Perth, as a demonstration of its commitment to improving customer service, advertised for expressions of interest from appropriately qualified organisations and individuals in performing the functions of Internal Ombudsman, the primary purpose of the service to be provided being described as investigating complaints, providing a conciliation service and making recommendations on actions to be taken to address complaints. Following are points which it is considered support the appointment of an Internal Ombudsman:-

• When dealing with complaints Local Government Officers are always seeking to defend the interests and reputation of their Local Government employer, and more…

Arthur Quit Comment 15.1 20 Mar 2012, 1:29 PM

Sorry Alan but I can't agree with your initial assumption that council officers are unhelpful . Hamstrung perhaps, but my experience is that local government officers and particularly those in Bunbury, go out of their way to assist ratepayers.

Alan Summers Comment 16 21 Mar 2012, 8:34 AM

Under the heading of “Council looks at changes”, the 4th September 2003 edition of the South Western Times reported that the Bunbury City Council was considering the introduction of a Councillor Portfolio system. It is understood that whilst Councillors had the opportunity during workshop sessions to review a number of alternative committee/portfolio systems, it was decided to retain the systems then operating, and which, so far as is known, remain in operation.

After the May 7th 2005 Council Election the City abolished the Ward System. Many members of the community may now feel that they no longer have the personal relationship more…

Aarpan Comment 17 21 Mar 2012, 4:47 PM

What the Council lacks is leadership. We need a progressive Council focused on what the majority of the population want, not what the old guard wants. The results of the last election clearly show that the community want change. Don't think that because you have been here for some time that you understand what the community wants. Show some real leadership and get the City going again. For the last five or six years there has not been any real progress. The staff have now all changed and we have new thinking and have lots of new ideas which seem to be making a mark. Now all we need to do is to have an elected Council that is really prepared to listen and take the initiative to make it happen. What has been in place for several years has not seen Bunbury at the forefront of progress so why keep going down that line. Make changes, take some chances and kick start the process.

Compliments to the staff who have made this forum available, now just make sure that what is said here is implemented or at least appropriately considered and responded to.

maureen Comment 18 24 Mar 2012, 1:37 PM

I would like to thank and give my appreciation to council staff .............. I have lived in Bunbury for many years now and have seen many changes in staff and councillors ......... in all that time, I have always received courteous service and most times this has been prompt or I have received a reason as to why something can't be done properly.

We must all appreciate that while the bigger things in like take time and money ............ really, we can live here without them. But without a dedicated and helpful staffing resource, we would be no-where now !

I more…

All Council cars to meet fuel efficiency standards. Less reliance on large cars and more purchase of smaller vehicles.

Pete79 Comment 20 28 Mar 2012, 2:33 PM

It’s time to merge all the Shires of Capel, Dardanup & Harvey into one mega council of Bunbury. It has been done over the eastern states with success.

magot Comment 21 9 Apr 2012, 11:31 PM

Yes join up with the other shires. Then would need less managers instead of creating more managment postions.

seafox Comment 22 10 Apr 2012, 1:58 PM

I would just like to see a council that has some vision, can see the potential of this fabulous coastal city, will listen to its rate payers and has the intestinal fortitude to act. Having read all the comments it seems clear that the people of Bunbury are tired of the procrastination and paper shuffling delays.........they want action - to see a developed and vibrant city with opportunities for everyone. Let's do it!!!

LGR Comment 23 23 Apr 2012, 4:39 PM

I think in relation to the Council's push for Amalgamation, instead of jsut telling the media that it's in the best interests of everybody to amalgamate (to which a lot of people disagree), maybe Bunbury should start 'publicly' demonstrating methods to which a merger of the different councils could be beneficial to everybody in the region. I think a big part of peopls concerns (mine included) is that the Bunury Council would be seen as taking over, and the smaller regions outside of the Greater Bunbury area (Dardanup, Boyanup, Gelorup, etc) would have far less representation and even less visual more…
